It’s only early May and yet the temperature outside has already reached close to 100 degrees a few days this year. This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend a 6:30pm wedding reception at a primarily outdoor wedding venue. The venue has numerous shade trees that surround a beautiful wooden pavilion. Despite the attempt to keep guests cool by placing fans in strategic places, it was hot. In fact, it was so hot that the butter cream frosting on the bride’s cake melted off the cake less than 30 minutes after the cake was delivered. Until about 8pm, guests looked for reasons to head inside the open part of the house to enjoy air conditioning if only for a few minutes.

After attending this wedding, I have a new appreciation for indoor receptions! As a guest, an indoor reception would have meant fewer trips to the bar in search of something cold to drink. It would have meant being more comfortable when everyone was sitting down eating dinner. I would have danced more and stayed longer.

Just today, a bride came rushing in to book the Chamber for her wedding this Saturday! She’d planned to have the wedding outdoors in her aunt’s large backyard. Unfortunately, it’s rained for days ruining her plans. She’s understandably distraught about the change in plans for her wedding day. On the bright side, she & her guests will be cool and she won’t have to worry about her cake melting!
